Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen to the Rescue.

 

A chic and contemporary interior invites guests inside at the new Doc B’s located on Bay Street in International Plaza. The menu delights diners in the Tampa Bay area with a focus on fresh salads and veggies, along with comfort food favorites of  burgers, and sandwiches served with french fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw or quinoa salad. The restaurant was created by Craig Bernstein, who opened the first Doc B’s in 2013, naming the restaurants after his late father, Dr. Bernstein. The concept hails from Chicago with two locations, and Tampa being the first in Florida, with a Fort Lauderdale location opening later this year.

The large communal table in the bar area or the tucked away booths, offer options to be social or secluded. The bar is surrounded by TVs to catch the scores of the latest games and enjoy a speciality cocktail or a craft beer. The outside patio, shielded with a brick fire pit wall, offers great people watching, while  sipping a glass of wine and savoring a salad or sandwich.

A great starter is the Housemade Guacamole. It is fresh and flavorful served with chips. The menu has a balance of healthier choices including a Quinoa Kitchen Salad made with Quinoa, Marcona almonds, mint, radish & feta topped with crispy leeks or the Brussel Sprout Salad, along with more comfort, Very Special Entrees. A personal favorite is the Wok Out Bowl® where you choose a Protein – shrimp, tofu or salmon, chicken or beef; Base – sticky brown rice, lo mein noodles or quinoa; Sauce – sesame teriyaki or spicy thai; all served in a bowl with veggies and cashews. The Pan Roasted Chicken is moist and flavorful, while filling up the entire plate and served with mashed potatoes. Be sure to save room for Rob’s Double Decker Chocolate Cake that is completely decadent and served with a cold glass of milk.

The menu changes quarterly to make the most of seasonal ingredients. While every effort is made to source locally, Doc B’s does seek out the highest quality ingredients including fresh tuna from Hawaii, lo mein noodles from San Fransisco and salmon from the Faroe Islands. Chicken and beef entrees are always made with hormone and antibiotic free meats. Everything is made in-house, every day including the salad dressings and desserts.       M
