Twinkle on Tampa!
My goodness, the star sightings have been fast and furious in Tampa over the past few weeks, and you know B Scene was in the middle of all the action for Metro readers! From Postcard Inn to the Hard Rock, with a little Bloomin’ Onion and the Outback Bowl in between, the parties were star studded.
Postcard Inn celebrated their first anniversary in star style with Santa descending off the beach to greet the more than 300 revelers. His reindeer made a special appearance during the holiday entertainment revue choreographed by Cynthia Gries. A bonfire and poolside movie completed the family fun-filled evening to celebrate a year in business. St. Pete Beach mayor Michael Finnerty and his wife Terri, enjoyed the sundae bar from D-Lites ice cream, and children enjoyed the holiday cookie bar.
As if fireworks aren’t enough around New Years, the Outback Bowl with sponsors Frank Cuteri from Mercedes Benz and Bill Camarata of MetLife, added a spark to the holiday with their annual Gridiron Gala. Joe Paterno, Jeremy Foley and Jon Gruden made an appearance at the fete, but the real stars seemed to be the food, and the lovely lady pouring champagne from above the bar, literally. Event chair Tracie Domino echoed the “sparkle” theme with her gorgeous frock. Also glittering were JP Peterson, Linda Hurtado, Dave Reynolds, Bryan Benson, Jillian Thompson, Misty Wells, Craig Kuhl and Brian Burns.
The Seminole Hard Rock is synonymous with star-studded extravaganzas, and wow, were they busy this month with the VIP Grand Opening of the Hard Rock Café and the glitterati-jammed Derek Jeter Celebrity Classic.
If the Grand Opening was a foreshadowing of the café’s success then Tampa nightlife has a new face. The night began with a private VIP reception with special guest appearances by LaGarrette Blount, Ryan Nece, Josh Freeman, Shelton Quarles, the Lightning’s Teddy Purcell and Nate Thompson and a smattering of Buccaneer talent. While guests got the chance to wine and dine in the Council Oak Room lounge, Styx gave a jaw dropping performance at the Café next door! As if that wasn’t enough, DJ to the stars Samantha Ronson turned up the heat for the main event. Everyone danced the night away with trapeze artists, go-go dancers and noted celebrities like The Hills star Stephanie Pratt, heiress Nicky Hilton, Ali Landry, Entourage star Kevin Connolly and NSync singer Joey Fatone.
The Entourage star Connolly, and Quarles returned for the Jeter fete the following week with R and B crooners Boyz II Men as the headlining entertainment. Celebrity guests for the weekend of golf and events included Michael Jordan, Jerry Ferrara, Harry Carson, Leann Tweeden, Richard Dent, Carl Everett, Brittany Lincicome, Richard "Goose" Gossage, Tino Martinez, Fred McGriff, Shelton Quarles, John Starks, James Blake and Andres Galarraga.
