B Scene with Brooke Palmer
Reaching For The Stars

Is it really fall? I can tell because the weather is absolutely dreamy! But fall also means event season here in Tampa Bay. First, an update from last month’s B Scene. As many of you know, I was asked to dance in Tampa Bay’s Dancing with the Stars, and yes, I, Brooke Palmer, your Metro Scenester (not a star, by any stretch) Cha Cha’d and hustled my way to the People’s Choice Award. Thanks to all of you that helped make that happen. Read on below for a full event wrap up.

Speaking of another star, Vinny Lecavalier held his annual poker tournament at Derby Lane with over 30 celebrities in attendance. B Scene went all-in for coverage, so check it out.

There are a lot of things to say about Vinny Lecavalier. Handsome, nice, approachable; but the best adjective I can think of is giving. After setting a precedent with his $3 million dollar commitment to build The Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Blood Disorders Center at All Children’s Hospital, he continues to give his time and energy now that the center has opened. Part of his efforts include his annual poker tournament that his teammates and local athletes support. This year the star power was huge with poker pros Annie Duke, of the Celebrity Apprentice, Jerry Yang, 2007 WSOP winner and Joe Sebok, UB poker pro, headlining the event. Also going “all-in” for charity were: teammates, Marty St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, Ryan Malone, Simon Gagne, Victor Hedman, and Mike Smith and other star athletes including: Gary Sheffield, Shaun King, Ian Beckles, Ryan Nece, and Jesse Litsch.

Well, I suppose I am a dancing machine…after putting myself out there, Hands Across the Bay’s 3rd edition of DWTS was a hit on every level. Organizers Julie Weintraub and Melissa Johnson put on a fabulous event to benefit three important charities: Pepin Heart Hospital, Kids Charity of Tampa Bay, and Moffitt Cancer Center. The dancers practiced for weeks to perfect their rumba, salsas, and cha chas. Taking home the mirror ball hardware were: Grand Champion Brian Weiss, who with his humpty dance rendition was unbeatable; 1st runner up, Lisa Casalino, and 2nd runner up, Roy Naccour. Best male dancer went to Cesar Lara, which was no surprise—he is just as charming as he is a great dancer. Best female went to Michelle Couture, who looked so stunning in her azure number, I voted for her too. Lastly, your Brooke Palmer (yes MOI!) won People’s Choice, which thrilled me, and I again appreciate all the support of my family and friends who stuffed that vote box. It was truly a life-changing experience.
